NH State Veterans Cemetery - March 2021 Update

Summary:

Below is an email update sent out last week. If you would like to be added to the distribution list for these updates, please sign up here: http://www.nhsvc.com/news and click on the "News Notification" button on the top.

As the weather transitions from winter to spring, so to the cemetery transitions from mostly white with snow to mostly green, with beautiful splashes of color! Unfortunately, the early transition is mostly brown, wet, and muddy. The staff is working diligently to clean and repair the grounds, but please be careful when you visit, as there are some slippery spots--especially in the morning, and very wet, muddy spots in the afternoon. The Memorial Walkway remains closed due to a few very icy spots. The Veterans Heritage Learning Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Please stop by and add your veteran information to our Remembrance Station, check out the new interactive calendar display, or learn from the many other displays.

Since the July 1st start of the fiscal year, we have conducted 740 interments. At the current pace, this will be the first year the NHSVC conducts over 1,000 interments. Kudos to the administrative and maintenance staff for their incredible work in keeping up, despite the challenges of COVID. Not only that, the admin staff has digitized ALL of our burial records! Please give them all a socially-distant thumbs-up the next time you see them.

You may have noticed that the Army Monument has some damage. New England weather wears down everything! We are in the process of working with fantastic vendors--who donate much of their time--to redesign, tear down, and rebuild the Army Monument. We hope to have that completed over the next several months. If you would like to donate a few dollars to help defray the cost of this rebuild, you can do so here:  https://www.nhvca.org/army-monument-repair-project

Lastly, 2022 will be the 25th Anniversary of the NH State Veterans Cemetery. We, along with the NH Veterans Cemetery Association, are working on many ideas to commemorate this important year. Please contact the cemetery office or the NHVCA to share your thoughts and ideas. Also, if you were involved in getting this cemetery started--we want to know about it! Please get us your contact information so we can invite and recognize you during this year-long commemoration! We are proud to have such a beautiful, dignified tribute to our nation's veterans and their families. We are grateful to those who have donated and continue to donate their time, talent, and treasure to support the NHSVC.

Have a safe and healthy Spring!
